Karnataka: Two abducted realtors freed, eight arrested

The Police have identified the victims as Muthu Kumar and Madan Kumar, both from Chennai.

BENGALURU: An eight-member gang, including a rowdy from Ballari and his wife, landed in Amruthahalli police net after they had kidnapped two realtors, hailing from Tamil Nadu, from a construction site near Hebbal last Sunday and robbed them of Rs 9 lakh and their BMW car at gun point.

The Police have identified the victims as Muthu Kumar and Madan Kumar, both from Chennai. The duo had come to the city and after completing their projects in Hebbal had gone to a pub when they were abducted. Police said that arrested are Nagaraju, 41, a rowdy sheeter and a resident of Ballari, his wife Inju Mari alias Sangeeta, 38, Noor Mohammed, 32, B. Iqbal Hussain (both from Ballari), Sriram Reddy, 30, from Hosakerehalli in Banshakari, Arun, 25, Shantraj, both residents of Srinagar and Shashaank, 23, a resident of Hosakerehalli.

According to the police, Nagaraju has multiple cases against him in various police stations across the state and has a rowdy sheet opened against him in Ballari and was also booked under Arms Act. Nagaraju used to move around pubs and star hotels to identify rich people who come in high end cars and spend lavishly.

Once the target is identified he would alert the gang members, who would follow and abduct them for ransom. On last Sunday Nagaraju spotted Muthu Kumar and Madan Kumar in the CBD area. After his aide received an alert they intercepted them near Hebbal, while they were returning home.

The abduction came to light after the realtors’ driver, identified as Manikantan, escaped and informed the police. The accused bundled Madan and Muthu in their BMW car and held them in captivity in Rajarajeshwarinagar at a house belonging to one of the victims and assaulted them.

They told the realtors to tell their friend to transfer a ransom of Rs 9 lakh to Nagaraju’s account, which was immediately withdrawn by his wife.

Based on the information by Manikantan, police formed the team and tracked the accused in RR Nagar and rescued the realtors. Police recovered two rev-olvers, ammunition and a car. The police have arrested Sangeetha.
