HD Kumaraswamy plans padayatra for water

Mr Kumaraswamy said, Our government is more concerned about farmers of Tamil Nadu than farmers of its own state.

Mysuru: JD(S) state president Mr H.D. Kumaraswamy said that the state government must release water into canals from reservoirs in the Cauvery catchment area for irrigating crops failing which he will undertake a padayatra from Hunsur to Bengaluru on July 31 to exert pressure on the government.

The former CM was speaking to mediapersons after visiting the CADA office premises here, where KR Nagar MLA Mr Sa Ra Mahesh has launched a protest along with farmers urging the state government to release water for crops. Mr Kumaraswamy said, “Our government is more concerned about farmers of Tamil Nadu than farmers of its own state. Despite the drought, the state is not releasing water into canals.”

On the move by a team of five cabinet ministers belonging to the Lingayat community to tour the state to ascertain views on the proposal for separate religion status for Lingayats, Mr Kumaraswamy said, “It is a cheap political gimmick. Instead of doing that, they should focus on the drought. CM Siddaramaiah is trying to divide people by saying that Lingayats and Veerashaivas are different castes. The statements made in this regard by other leaders of our party are only their personal opinion.”
