Mahatma Gandhi University removes some, adds some colleges for CAP

University cuts affiliation of two colleges permanently for not meeting the basic requirements.

KOCHI: Amid allegations of MG University giving affiliation to colleges that have failed to meet infrastructure requirements and including them in this year’s UG Centralised Allotment Process (CAP), the university has cut the affiliation of two colleges permanently for not meeting the basic requirements. They are SN Arts and Science College Kuttanad and SN Arts and Science College Oathara which don’t have any facility to run the courses granted to them. The affiliation is cut permanently if the colleges fail to meet requirements consecutively for two years, as per MGU Statute.

Three colleges have not been included in the first phase of the allotment this year for failing to meet requirements to run even the classes. They are IHRD College Kanjirappally, Sree Narayana Paramahamsa College, Poonjar and Kesari Arts and Science College, North Paravur. An MGU official said that they can be included in the supplementary allotment if they rectify the shortcomings.
Two colleges which could not find a place in last year’s allotment have found a place in this year’s allotment.

The official said that these colleges could add facilities for running courses this year. They are SN Arts and Science College Mezhuveli and St George Arts and Science College Vazhakkulam. Meanwhile close on the heels of the complaint that MGU has allowed Sree Narayana Arts & Science College, Kedamangalam, North Paravur in the CAP despite not having enough land as stipulated by UGC and MGU, similar complaint has come up against another college.

Joshy V.K, a native of Karumaloor in North Paravur, has shot off a letter to MGU Registrar stating that SNGIST Arts & Science College, North Paravur managed by Gurudeva Trust, North Paravur, does not have five acres of land to run the college as stipulated by UGC and MGU.

He said that the management has influenced the MG University inspection commissions who visited the college and certain university officials for running the college violating statutory provisions, despite various complaints. He has asked the registrar to de-affiliate SNGIST Arts & Science College with immediate effect from the list of affiliated colleges and not to include it in CAP for 2018-19, lest legal measures will be initiated.
