Venkaiah Naidu to open CUK academic complexes on April 29

The new complexes on Tejaswini Hills would be a landmark for the Central university.

KASARGOD: Vice-president Venkaiah Naidu will inaugurate eight academic complexes of Central University here on April 29.

After its inception in 2009, the Periya campus had been functioning on rented buildings, and the new complexes on Tejaswini Hills would be a landmark for the university.

At present, the CUK has 22 postgraduate departments, 21 research departments and one undergraduate department. More than 300 scholars pursue their research programme for PhD and 1100 students are on track to achieve their masters in different disciplines.

These stakeholders drawn from 17 states of India are being mentored and guided by 121 permanent faculty members selected from 14 states.

The university came into being on March 2, 2009, with the appointment of first vice-chancellor Dr Jancy James.

The state government allotted 310 acres of land at Periye, which was handed over on March 18, 2012, in a ceremony. It is likely to get another 51 acres in Periya from the state government.

Facilitating infrastructure with the present eight academic blocks was formally inaugurated on September 4, 2015, by Union minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda.

The 310-acre campus will be strengthened more in the next four years with the added state of the art facilities, said the authorities at a press conference held here on Wednesday.

A ladies hostel was constructed in 2013 to accommodate 164 students. Two permanent hostels with a capacity of accommodating 450 students opened in 2016 and construction of two additional hostels will start soon, they added.

CUK started functioning from a transit campus at Vidyanagar, Kasaragod, on June 4, 2009, with just seventeen students and two academic programmes.
In 2013, the department of international relations was inaugurated here with its undergraduate study centre at Thiruvananthapuram centre. Later, departments of computer science, mathematics and social began on the transitory campus.
