M-3 EVMs to be used in 7 city constituencies

Chief Election Officer Sanjiv Kumar said that the advanced EVMs will be used extensively during the general elections in 2019.

Bengaluru: The Election Commission will use upgraded M-3 EVMs in seven constituencies of Bengaluru during the Assembly elections on May 12.

Chief Election Officer Sanjiv Kumar said that the advanced EVMs will be used extensively during the general elections in 2019.

The constituencies chosen are Rajarajeshwarinagar, Shivajinagar, Shanthinagar, Gandhinagar, Rajajinagar, Chickpet and Chamarjpet. The EVMs have arrived and the first level of checkup and training has been completed.

Compared to M-2 EVMs, the M-3 EVMs have advanced features. While the earlier version showed only battery status, the new one will also display the percentage of battery storage. Besides, the new EVMs authenticate hardware automatically and are compatible with the equipment of other manufacturers. Earlier, BEL EVMs were compatible with only BEL equipment, ECIL manufactured EVMs with ECIL devices etc. The compatibility issue has been resolved with M-3 EVMs, he said.

M-3 EVMs will have better storage, are easy to handle and are compact in size, which will lessen the use of manpower, he said.
