HMDA to take up clean-up project at Rs 3crore

Officials claim the odour from Hussainsagar will be minimised in a few months.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metro-politan Development Authority (HMDA) has decided to take up the Hussainsagar clean-up project at an estimated cost of Rs 3 crore, and has invited global tenders which will be finalised in a couple of days. HMDA has also promised to complete the construction of an Interception & Diversion (I&D) structure at a cost of Rs 5 crore to divert Kukatpally Nala, which carries industrial effluents. Officials claim the odour from Hussainsagar will be minimised in a few months.

HMDA chief engineer B.L.N. Reddy said the agency has completed nine I&D structures out of 10, and some of the structures include Kukatpally Nala, Pikcet Nala, Yousufguda, Banjara Nala, Balkapur, and another structure at Bridge No. 3 on Necklace Road (BS Maktha/ Kundanbagh).

Nearly Rs 11 crore is spent on the operation and management of STPs and I&D annually. He said the construction of I&D structure at Kukatpally Nala will divert the effluent flow. Reddy said the HMDA has invited global tenders for the Hussain Sagar project. Asked about using Canadian technology, he said the firm concerned has been charging Rs 10 crore, which makes it too costly.
