Justice Ramasubramanian accorded warm farewell

Advocate-general A.L.Somayaji delivered the farewell address at a simple function.

Chennai: The Bench and the Bar of Madras high court on Monday bade farewell to Justice V. Ramasubramanian, who has been transferred to the High Court of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in Hyderabad.

Advocate-general A.L.Somayaji delivered the farewell address at a simple function. Somayaji said bidding farewell was not a pleasant exercise because pain always accompanies parting. The pain was more in bidding farewell to Justice Ramasubramanian because he had sought transfer for undisclosed reasons. He had rendered several landmark judgments, some of which were the first of their kind in the country.

Somayaji said Justice Ramasubramanian was known for his unique style of writing judgments with humorous punches and beginning the judgment with quotes of famous and respected personalities in different walks of life.

He broke down legal concepts to simple ideas to ensure lucidity and logical coherence. Justice Ramasubramanian was a role model of simplicity and humility and discharged his duties with the highest sense of integrity and independence, the Advocate general said.

In his reply, Justice Ramasubramanian said he was happy to note that what he said at the time of his elevation has come true and quite a number of souls genuinely wept upon hearing the news of his request for a transfer. Therefore, he was going with a sense of satisfaction that he fulfilled his promise. “To my friends, supporters and well wishers, I say this.

That my thoughts are always with you. To my detractors, who constitute a microscopic minority and who have now been tamed, I say this. That I am not running away from the battlefield, but just positioning myself at a distance carefully worked out, so that long range missiles can be fired and the rebel camps completely destroyed”, he said.
