Bengaluru: Hotels, offices switch off lights for Earth Hour

In its tenth edition, supported by the World Wide Fund for Nature, 7,000 cities across the world participated.

Bengaluru: In support of Earth Hour 2017, restaurants, hotels, offices and homes across the city turned their lights off on Saturday for an hour from 8:30 pm in solidarity with the global movement against climate change.

In its tenth edition, supported by the World Wide Fund for Nature, 7,000 cities across the world participated. Taj Hotels extended its support to the Earth Hour campaign by minimizing electricity consumption for an hour in their 71 branches. They also offered a special sustainable menu in celebration of the event. The Gateway Hotel, Residency Road, also announced that they will encourage the practice of Earth Hour at the hotel every month starting this March. Mariott Hotel Whitefield also turned off the lights in support. Toscano’s at VR Mall also participated.

The Cognizant team, who has been a part of the movement since its inception, didn’t miss out. Infosys, however, unlike last year did not have any campaigns, a spokesperson said.
