Bengaluru: Every woman is an achiever, says Siddaramaiah

The programme was meant to recognise and felicitate woman achievers.

Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has lauded the role played by women in various walks of the society. While addressing the 'Women's Day Celebration' organised by MLA Harris Foundation here on Saturday, he said, “Every woman is an achiever. A woman plays a role in different ways. We are privileged to have these women with us who serve as an example to the society."

The programme was meant to recognise and felicitate woman achievers. Those who were felicitated include Roopa Rani of Confederation of Women Entrepreneurs, Jyothi Balakrishna of Association of Women Entrepreneurs of Karnataka, Devaki Yohganand of WEKAS, Sunitha Rao, Sonali Swami (body building), Rekha Ghosh (SVP Massive Restaurants), Sangeetha Parameshwaran (Blue Bells PG Chain), Manjula (Bodycraft), Usma Irfaan (Prestige Group), Meera Saxena (Karnataka Human Rights Commission), Shanthi (woman auto wriver), Women Metro Train Drivers, BMTC Staff and women resident welfare association presidents.

During the event the Chief Minister also launched a mobile application ‘Swachh Map For Swachh Bharat’. The app was designed from the grants secured from IT major Intel and is being successfully used in Siliguri, Bhopal, Rajkot and Gurgaon.

In this platform residents of a constituency can raise their concerns on local issues, click a picture with the location tag, to highlight the complaint. This will be addressed by the department concerned within a day, failing which it would be escalated to the next in hierarchy. The officials concerned will have to respond with a before and after picture to close the complaint.

Regarding the purpose of this event, Shantinagar MLA N.A. Haris said, “We cannot imagine a life without women. But today our country has reached a situation where we fail to respect and value women in our society."

Nearly 100 women achievers were felicitated at the programme, held at Lourdes Church grounds. Energy Minister D.K. Shivakumar, Mayor G. Padmavathi, Karnataka State Mahila Congress President Lakshmi Hebbalkar and former minister Rani Satish, local corporators and government officials attended.
