Pre-University board pulls up socks to prevent paper leaks

Pre-University department has opted for several high tech solutions, including barcoding of question paper bundles for monitoring.

Bengaluru: In order to avoid the repeat of previous year’s embarrassing question paper leaks, the Pre-University department has opted for several high tech solutions, including barcoding of question paper bundles for monitoring.

According to the department officials, this time it has introduced Karnataka Secure Examination System (KSES), under which question paper bundles with bar code will be monitored round the clock. Even a small movement inside the strong room of district treasuries, where question papers will be stored, will be recorded and reflect on the mobile phones of senior officials.

"Every officer including DC, SP, DDPIs, Pre-University board senior officials will instantly get a 15-second footage about the movement of papers. This will help the department to ensure that no one can access the question paper in the district treasuries," said an officer. According to the officials, till last year examination used to start at 9 am, but this year it will begin at 10.15 am.

"This will help the department distribute the question papers from district treasuries to all the examination centres. When examinations started at 9 am, the department was forced to keep question papers in sub treasuries, from where they got leaked last year,” an officer informed.

Biometric data
Bio metric data will be collected from all the officials, including security guards, who monitor the question paper strong rooms to ensure that only authorised personnel are able to access them, even at the time of dispatching the question paper bundles.

What are the new measures?
Under the Karnataka Secure Examination System (KSES) question papers will be monitored through CCTV cameras round the clock.
Under the system even a small movement in the strong room will be recorded and footage will be sent to mobile phone numbers of top officials.
Instead of 9 am, this year the exams will start at 10.15 am. This will help the PU department to ensure that question papers can be distributed from district treasury to all the examination centres.
The question paper bundles will have bar code. Only biometric access to guards and officials dealing with question papers.

Number of students appearing for PUC exam: 6,84,247
