Financial scam: What business did they do in Dubai, asks Shibu Baby John

Kollam: RSP leader Shibu Baby John has flayed the attitude by CPM in dealing with money scam involving Binoy Balakrishnan and Sreejith Vijayan Pillai. "Don't settle Binoy’s debt using the Ockhi fund," he quipped while talking to reporters at the Press Club here on Thursday. “It is quite natural that businesses fail and people suffer losses. But here the situation has been tackled by fleeing the country (of residence) like Vijay Mallya.” Mr John also said it was interesting that nobody knew what business had they been doing in Dubai.

“Rakhul Krishnan is the only partner of JAAS Tourism LLC. What business have Binoy and Sreejith had there?” he asked. RSP leader N.K. Premachandran MP said they knew about it since the time of Padayorukkam, but chose not to use it for a personal attack. “The CPM takes such issues when they come against them lightly while they go harsh on others. The CPM has a moral responsibility to address the issue as they had criticised the scam involving BJP leader Amit Shah's son,” he said.

"If K.M. Mani joins them, he's clean, and if anyone leaves, they are sinners. It points at the deterioration of CPM as a political party,” he said. Sons of CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan and Chavara MLA Vijayan Pillai are facing charges of cheating money to the tune of crores from the Dubai firm. Rakhul Krishnan, its partner, says Mr Sreejith cheated the firm of Rs 10 crore while its UAE sponsor complained Binoy Vinodini Balakrishnan of fleeing the country after tricking him of Rs 13 crore. He says a Dubai court had sentenced Mr Sreejith to two years in jail based on his complaint, following which the police sought the help of Interpol to extradite him.
