Hyderabad: Telangana Sculptors Associations demanded the state government to give opportunity to the local sculptors to make the 125-feet tall bronze statue of Dr B.R. Ambedkar instead of giving the opportunity to artists from other states. Local talent should be encouraged as local sculptors are suffering due to unemployment, they said.
Members of the sculptor associations allege that though a committee was constituted to finalise the statue design and construction, not even a single opportunity was given to the local sculptors. After touring Sikkim, China and several other places where some of the world’s tallest statues are ins-talled, the committee invited applications from its surrounding states but not from TS, the sculptors alleged.
