South Central Railway moves mountain' to get trains on track

The movement of trains has been affected on the section.

Hyderabad: Over 1 lakh cubic meters of mud, sand and ballast were washed away from under the tracks at five places on the Nadikudi-Guntur section in one of the worst breaches in SCR. The scale of the damage was slowing down repair work.

The movement of trains has been affected on the section. As many as 250 trains have been cancelled over three days. SCR is racing against time to restore the tracks before October 1, when Bathukamma and Dasara vacations begin.

SCR general manager Ravindra Gupta is personally monitoring the repair work taken up simultaneously at all the five affected spots. “Three of the five breaches have been repaired but the remaining two extend up to 1.8 km length and track restoration is likely to take four to five days more,” a senior official said.

A large number of passengers were stranded in the city as they missed the connecting trains due to the disrupted movement of trains. Among them were 10 visually challenged boys from Guwahati heading to a painting contest in Nellore. RTC services were also affected but buses were back on the roads in Ranga Reddy, Mahbubnagar, Medak and Hyderabad districts.
