DySP Ganapati suicide: Case off, KJ George back in saddle?

Mr Siddaramaiah and KPCC president Dr G Parameshwar have repeatedly maintained that Mr George was innocent.

BENGALURU: Former minister K J George is on a come-back trail! He is likely to be re-inducted into the cabinet by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday, ten days after the sleuths of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) filed a closure report, giving him and two senior police officers a clean chit over their alleged role in the suicide of deputy superintendent of police M.K. Ganapati. Mr George is likely to be given the reins of Bengaluru development again.

Sources in Congress said Mr George, who quit when a local court in Madikeri asked the police to register a FIR against him and two senior police officers, met senior central leaders along with Mr Siddaramaiah on Thursday, and secured their go-ahead for his return to the cabinet. He had earlier held the key portfolio of home.

The news of his return, however, prompted Opposition leaders to threaten state-wide agitation in support of their demand for a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the suicide of Mr Ganapati. They have scoffed at the clean chit given by officers of CID.

Both Mr Siddaramaiah and KPCC president Dr G Parameshwar have repeatedly maintained that Mr George was innocent but stepped down only to prevent embarrassment to the ruling party and the state government.
