Bengaluru: The BBMP budget, which has been put on hold, has crippled the city in many ways. It was on August 3 that Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa put the budget on hold. He remained a one-man cabinet till last week when inducted several ministers. But there has been no relief for the BBMP as the hold on the budget continues.
The Palike has been in a limbo since the Lok Sabha elections in May and development works have been affected because the civic body could not float tenders for garbage collection and other development works.
Mayor Gangambike and other senior corporators met Mr Yediyurappa on August 5 and demanded that he approve the budget at the earliest. The issue was also raised in the BBMP Council but there is no relief.
“We are not able to answer citizens, who are facing several issues. The city is riddled with potholes, rising dengue cases, rain-induced flooding and delayed white topping works. The city is crippled and the chief minister is busy with his own politics,” said a corporator, who demanded that the BBMP budget be approved soon.
Ms Gangmabike told Deccan Chronicle that she will meet Mr Yediyurappa again along with other senior corporators. “We have to get the budget approved. Major works have been stuck and we are not able to do anything as the budget is on hold. We will meet the chief minister and pressurise him to give the nod,” she said.
