Gold worth Rs 24 lakh seized at Chennai International Airport

As many as 725 grams of gold valued at Rs 24 lakh was recovered and the same was seized under the provisions of the Customs Act 1962.

Chennai: Customs officials at the Chennai International Airport here seized gold worth Rs 24 lakh on Friday morning. Identified as Savad Notten Veedan (24) of Kozhikode, a person who arrived from Bangkok by Indigo flight, was intercepted by AIU officers and subjected to a search.

During a search on his person, three bundles of gold in a rubbery spread were found concealed in his rectum and another two bundles found inside his undergarments. As many as 725 grams of gold valued at Rs 24 lakh was recovered and the same was seized under the provisions of the Customs Act 1962. Investigations are on.
