Kedamangalam college short of land, lands in row

A Syndicate member in the last Syndicate Prof. B.Suseelan had submitted a report to the university after complaints were lodged against the college.

KOCHI: A controversy has erupted over MG University allowing a self-financing arts and science college in Kedamangalam in rural Ernakualm to run courses allegedly without having UGC stipulated land to house the college. Sree Narayana Arts & Science College, Kedamangalam, North Paravur, in Ernakulam district, managed by SNDP Union, North Paravur, is facing the heat for allegedly not having five acres of land as stipulated by the UGC to house the college. But the college has now been included in this year’s Centralised Allotment Process (CAP) for UG courses by MG University which starts on Friday.

A Syndicate member in the last Syndicate Prof. B.Suseelan had submitted a report to the university after complaints were lodged against the college. Now a social worker has sent a legal notice to the Registrar of MG University demanding that the affiliation to the college be withdrawn and that it not be included in CAP for this year’s UG. “I sent the lawyer’s notice on April 27 this year and I understand the Syndicate which met on May 19 cleared the college to be included in CAP. The college has only 2.58 acres in its possession whereas the UGC stipulates ownership and possession of 5 acres of undisputed land by the college. The MGU statute stipulates this at eight hectares. I wonder how the authorities can flout such rules. I am moving the Kerala High Court on this,” said social activist Abhilash C S, a native of North Paravur.

“Pursuant to a complaint by Mr. Binu Narayany, Narayana Mandiram, Kedamangalam, North Paravur on April 18, 2013 to the Vice Chancellor, M.G.University regarding statutory violation in granting affiliation to the college, Prof. B.Suseelan, Member Syndicate, was appointed by the University to head an Inquiry Commission. The Inquiry Commission in its report dated March 17, 2014 clearly reported that the college had only 2.58 Acres of land under its ownership. But he chose to overlook that along with other illegalities and recommended affiliation to the college,” he said. SN College runs courses like B.Sc Computer Science, B.Com Computer Application, B.Com Travel and Tourism, B.Com Marketing, B.A.English Literature & Communication Studies, M.Com Finance with affiliation from MG University.
