Khammam MLA Ajay set to join TRS

Mr Ajay Kumar will be the second out of the four Congress legislators in the district joining the ruling party.

Hyderabad: In another blow to the Congress, party MLA from Khammam, Mr Puvvada Ajay Kumar, has resigned and decided to join the TRS. Mr Ajay Kumar will be the second out of the four Congress legislators in the district joining the ruling party. Yellandu MLA Mr Koram Kanakaiah had already joined the TRS 18 months back.

Mr Ajay Kumar, who is a close friend of minister for municipal administration K.T. Rama Rao, will join the TRS in the presence of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao in Hyderabad on April 25. He met minister for roads and buildings Tummala Nageswara Rao in Khammam on Sunday morning and cleared his doubts about his status in the party and in Khammam Assembly segment.

Apart from being assured of the party ticket from Khammam for the 2019 elections, the MLA was allegedly promised non-intervention in the district and that all decisions pertaining to the TRS would be left to him. “I took the decision as the best programmes are being implemented by the TRS government,” Mr Kumar said, adding that it was not correct on the part of the Congress to criticise every scheme of the state government. He said that the Sitarama (Dunnugudem) Lift Irrigation Project was the best project for Khammam and it was not correct on the Congress' part to find fault with it. "I was feeling embarrassed to continue in the party because of this," he said, adding that the Congress also failed to deal with the Power Point presentation made by the CM on irrigation projects in the Assembly.

He said that his followers and party leaders would join the TRS along with him. "I do not know the future of the Congress, but the TRS government is going on the right track in developing Telangana," he said. Meanwhile, nine corporators who were elected in the recent Khammam municipal corporation elections met DCC president Mr A. Satyam and assured him that they would not be joining the TRS along with the MLA.
