Telugu Desam government deeply rooted in graft: BJP

TDP stands for Telugu Drama Party; CM lost control on MLAs: Veerraju.

Vijayawada: BJP national executive member and MLC, Somu Veerraju, has lambasted the TD government on account of corruption in the majority of government schemes, including construction of the Pattiseema and Polavaram irrigation projects. Talking to reporters here on Saturday, Mr Veerraju said that corruption has taken place on a large-scale in schemes like Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Neeru Chettu, NREGS, sand transportation and others.

“A crowbar is not sufficient to dig the corruption of the TD government; we will need a bulldozer or a proclainer. Curiously, the estimates of the Pattiseema irrigation projects has jumped suddenly from Rs 11,125 crore to Rs 11,627 crore, causing a 22 per cent excess. In the Polvaram project too large-scale corruption has taken place. For instance, in the left main canal, a '15 crore work has been unilaterally increased to Rs 60 crore and the work has been delegated to the person who was renominated as a Rajya Sabha member by the TD. In relief and rehabilitation too, such corruption is prevalent. For example, a village which was given compensation by the YSR government was again supposedly given the same compensation. But it has gone into the pockets of fake beneficiaries and there are many such that exist,” he said.

Mr Veerraju also said that though the government has been claiming that every free sand truck has been geotagged, Rs 2,000 is being collected daily on every truck. He further said that hundreds of crores of funds that come under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan has been syphoned off in the name of training for parents. He also alleged that there has been widespread corruption in the Rayalaseema irrigation project too. Mr Veerraju added that TDP stands for Telugu Drama Party, and that the Chief Minister had lost control over his MLAs who have turned into dictators in their respective constituencies and indulged in widespread corruption. Additionally, he has demanded a white paper on the utilisation of funds under NREGS, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and Neeru Chettu schemes.
