GHMC official held for fraud

Siphoned funds of Rs 26.72 cr from transport wing.

Hyderabad: An official of GHMC was arrested by the Central Crime Station sleuths in a case related to siphoning of '26.72 crore between 2007 and 2009.

Nanda Kishore, deputy engineering, traffic and transport wing GHMC Secunderabad had allegedly indulged in the fraud while working as AEE Malakpet Parking Yard.

The case pertains to criminal breach of trust and siphoning of government funds to a tune of '26.72 crores in motor transport wing of GHMC. The vigilance and enforcement department had found that the officials of the GHMC and contractors colluded and siphoned the GHMC funds.

“The irregularities were committed in purchase of spare parts and repairs of auctioned vehicles, condemned vehicles and also new vehicles. The accused was involved in claiming the bills, which were already auctioned as per records.

The entire fraud was reported in two financial years between 2007 -2008 and 2008 and 2009,” said DCP detective department, Avinash Mohanthy.

In January, the CCS has arrested five former employees of the GHMC who are allegedly involved in the fraud.

The enquire had found that ten firms Gayathri Engineering Works, Deccan Enterprises, Ayyappa Motors, Saraswati Automobiles, Venkateshwara Auto Services, Raghavendra Automobiles BVR Enterprises Amrutha Engineering Works, Bhavani Motors, and Lalitha Parameswari Automobiles are also involved in the fraud.

The highlight of the fraud is the officials showed repairs worth over '3.88 crore for around 198 vehicles were shown on the records, despite the vehicles being under warranty period.
