Give good treatment to inpatients: Madras HC

Advocate V. Suresh made a mention before Justice R. Mahadevan about the police excesses on Tuesday.

Chennai: The Madras high court has directed the advocate general to see that proper treatment is given to inpatients admitted to government hospital, after they sustained injuries during the violence on January 23.

Advocate V. Suresh made a mention before Justice R. Mahadevan about the police excesses on Tuesday. He said even though the matter relating to ordinance for jallikattu is over, the police action on innocent people is matter to be considered by the court.

The police had entered into the houses of the people and damaged their households and other materials in some places. The police also tore the slips issued to outpatients. Police are interfering with the treatment given to inpatients and no proper treatment is given to them, he added.

Following this, the judge orally directed advocate general R. Muthukumaraswamy to see that proper treatment is given to inpatients admitted to hospital. The judge also directed advocate Suresh to file an affidavit with all the materials.

Meanwhile, the judge adjourned to Wednesday, further hearing of the petitions filed by the two protestors G.Pavendhan and Senthil Kumar, which sought a direction to the police not to harass them.

Earlier, advocate K.Balu made a mention before the judge that he was having plenty of materials to show the involvement of police in the violence, which erupted on Tuesday in Chennai and other places and sought permission to file a petition. Similarly another advocate A.P. Suryaprakasam also made a mention before the judge to permit him to file a petition against Peta and against the statement made by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy against Tamil culture. The judge permitted them to file petitions.
