Extend metro to Old Hyderabad: Shabbir Ali

He asked Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to bring this to the notice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to the city.

Hyderabad: Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council Shabbir Ali on Thursday demanded that the Centre and the state governments give an assurance on the completion of remaining works of Metro Rail in the city. He asked Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to bring this to the notice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to the city.

Mr Shabbir Ali blamed both the TRS government and MIM for delay in execution of the Metro Rail project and for cost escalation. Speaking to mediapersons ahead of the first phase of Metro Rail, he said the project was the brain child of the Congress government that designed it, laid the foundation stone, procured financial linkages and Central approvals.

He demanded that Mr Rao and Mr Modi clarify who would take up the Old City Metro Rail, as L&T had announced that it would not take up the segment due to cost escalation. He said the agreement with L&T for 35 years included the five years of construction. “If the PM and the CM fail to announce a schedule for completion of the leftover works, the Congress will launch an agitation,” Mr Shabbir Ali said.
