Belagavi: Criminals beware, a varsity soon to unlock your evils

HM Reddy says it will train policemen in crime detection techniques.

Belagavi: A university exclusively to impart training in modern crime detection technology, will be set up in Karnataka, said Home Minister R Ramalinga Reddy.
Replying to Ms Tara Anuradha (BJP) in the Legislative Council on Thursday, he said a proposal to this effect would be announced in the State Budget 2018-19. The purpose of setting up this varsity was to train police personnel in crime detection as modes of crime are changing everyday. Presently, cops are not trained in modern crime detection technology and this had delayed the cracking of several cases.

The government is yet to decide on the name of the proposed varsity and funds required for this. Even the location of the university is yet to be decided. Since the home department has several police training centres, one suitable location would be selected.

Mr Reddy said such varsities were functioning at several places including one in Pune. The proposed varsity would throw light on latest advancements in the field of forensic sciences and impart training to cops.

The selection of faculty would be decided at a later stage. The proposed varsity would be akin to a traditional university but with a different agenda- help in hastening crime detection. Officers of different ranks would be trained in the university.
