Bengaluru: The High Court on Wednesday stressed on the need to protect the life and property of every senior citizen. While hearing a petition filed by a 70-year-old widow, the court said it was high time for the state government to come up with a comprehensive plan in accordance with the provisions of the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007.
The complainant had approached the court seeking protection and other rights, including implementation of the Act. The court directed the police stations in the state to immediately update the list of senior citizens residing in their limits. Such a list would be effective for them to protect the rights of the senior citizens.
The petitioner was residing in a house granted by the Sum Development Board in Byappanahalli. She had taken a loan from a money lender, but despite repaying the same, the latter began troubling her and forced her out of the house. She then approached the court on the ground that the concerned officials and police officers were duty bound to protect her rights under the Act and demanded action against the money lender.
Relief to Mysore Race club
In a relief to Mysore Race Club, the High Court has stayed the operation of the show-cause notice, dated November 11 with respect to suspending the racing activities and handing over possession of the property to the Public Works Department. The court has further made it clear that the proceedings initiated pursuant to the show-cause as such are not stayed. The Mysore Race Club is also directed to file objections to the notice issued against it by the PWD, within ten days.
PU leak, bail rejected
The High Court has rejected the bail plea of five people - Eramallapa, Santosh Parusharam Agasimani, Manjunath, Nagendra and Thimmegowda, all accused in the second PU question paper leak.
The Malleswaram police had registered a case following a complaint was lodged after the Chemistry paper leak came to light on March 21, 2016. The case is now being investigated by CID.
