Warangal: Illegal structures reason for floods

Due to these illegal constructions, the drainage systems became narrow and as a result, the water is overflowing from the tanks.

Warangal: Citizens blamed illegal constructions in the city for the current flood situation. They said due to illegal land acquisition on the banks of lakes and indiscriminate construction of buildings, the water is overflowing from Waddepalli and Bhadrakali lakes. They blamed Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for not keeping his promise of underground drainage system in the city.

“Due to these illegal constructions, the drainage systems became narrow and as a result, the water is overflowing from the tanks. We are seeing such a situation after four years. The drainage system in the city is in a bad state and needs immediate revival. The Bondi vagu in Hunter road is surrounded by illegal constructions. No official ever came to inspect the area. As a result, now it is overflowing onto the main road with no other way,” said K. Srinivas of Hunter road.

Mayor Nannapuneni Narender who visited the flood affected areas in the city said they would take action against such illegal constructions. “The flood situation in many areas is happening because of these constructions. Most of them do not have properly planned drainage systems. We will take this into account and prepare DPRs to construct drainages,” he said.
