Raod Safety Bill recommends 6-month jail for drunken driving

Efforts are being made to ensure that all bar and restaurants equip themselves with breathe analysers.

Hyderabad: Cyberabad east commissioner Mahesh Bhagwath said on Tuesday that drunken driving will lead to an imprisonment of up to six months as per the proposed Road Safety Bill in addition to a penalty of Rs 10,000. He was speaking at the counselling session for motorists booked for drunken driving. The counselling was jointly conducted by Cyberabad East traffic cops, officials from excise department, office bearers of Amruta Foundation and Mission Smart Ride.

The Cyberabad east commissioner said that the efforts are being made to ensure that all bar and restaurants equip themselves with breathe analysers so that people going out of the premises can take breathe analyser test to see the blood alcohol levels and take a cab. Cyberabad Police have booked 5,873 motorists so far this year for drunken driving. Of this, 202 were jailed and remaining to asked to do community service or stand till the rising of the court.
