No progress in Kalburgi case, family upset

Seeing the little progress it has made since, his supporters are now calling for a CBI probe into the matter.

Hubballi: Upset over the lack of progress in finding the killers of prominent scholar, Professor M M Kalburgi, known for his rationalist views, his family, friends and supporters have decided to launch a movement on August 30, his first death anniversary, to demand speedy investigation into his murder.

The CID team , which visited the scholar’s house in Dharwad, where he was gunned down by two unidentified youth on August 30 last year, released sketches of the killers on the basis of information provided by his wife, who was the only witness to the murder. But seeing the little progress it has made since, his supporters are now calling for a CBI probe into the matter.

Also, rationalists in Dharwad have decided to launch a movement by inviting hundreds of progressive thinkers, writers and social activists from across the country to bring pressure on the government to zero in on his killers.

"Lack of progress in the investigation has upset our family members and rationalists. So we are launching movement on the occasion of his first death anniversary to step up pressure on the government to speed up the probe," said Mr Srivijay, the late professor’s son.
