VK Sasikala camp may file case against Roopa Moudgil

The Karnataka Government has instituted an inquiry into allegations made by the 'whistleblower' cop.

Chennai: The Sasikala faction of AIADMK on Sunday threatened to file a defamation case against IPS officer Roopa, former DIG of Parapana Agrahara prison in Bengaluru, for her ‘slanderous campaign’ against party interim general secretary V.K. Sasikala.

Ms Roopa was transferred from the prison after she alleged that Sasikala had got the facilities like TV set, separate room with air-conditioning after paying a bribe of Rs 2 crore to prison officials. The Karnataka Government has instituted an inquiry into allegations made by the 'whistleblower’ cop who has also accused the DG, Prison of being corrupt. On Saturday, the top IPS officer reiterated her allegations that Sasikala was given an entire corridor of about 150 feet with five cells and LED television set besides other facilities.

Speaking to reporters here on Sunday, Perambur MLA and Sasikala loyalist P. Vetrivel tore into the Karnataka police officer asking her to stop ‘defaming’ Sasikala and withdraw her allegations, which he termed ‘baseless.’

“They say she was given several special facilities and pictures of the room where is she allegedly staying has surfaced in the social media. If indeed she has been allotted the room, why is Chinamma (Sasikala) not in the picture? How can you just show a room and say this is the one used by her? The slanderous campaign should stop,” Mr Vetrivel said.

He also wondered how the AIADMK, which is perceived to be close to the BJP, get ‘help’ from the Congress government. “Why should the Congress help us when we have voted for the BJP? The campaign that Congress and AIADMK have joined hands to ensure Chinamma's well-being is wrong,” Mr Vetrivel said.

He also said as “district secretary of the AIADMK”, he would file a defamation case against Roopa for her allegations against Sasikala. "I am consulting my lawyers on how to go about it and very soon, I will file a case against her. She has to answer all questions. If she has proof, let her put it before the court of law," Mr Vetrivel said.
