Legal acumen: Lawyer Jaitley here to give a push

Karnataka has become the hub of legal education in the country.

BENGALURU: Legal education was once seen as the last option, but with the change in time along with globalisation steered by the technology, it is now the most preferred option, said Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

“Globalisation and technology have opened up new possibilities for legal education. Various kinds of legal programmes are being offered and law course has assumed greater significance. In such circumstances, in coming days we may find the traditional concepts hardly being used and super-specialisation will be the order of the day in legal field," he added. Jaitley is also an eminent jurist and senor advocate..

Karnataka has become the hub of legal education in the country. There is a great demand for policy advocates and experts in handling bankruptcy and international trade. Hence, stress should be given for research in legal issues, he added.

The Minister was speaking during the inaugural ceremony of the new campus of the Law College administered by Karnataka Lingayat Education Society here, on Saturday.

While citing media reports regarding Brexit and its effects on the UK’s economy, he said, “'Under the globalised scenario it would be counter productive and very difficult to de-globalise and Brexit vote was an example. I read a report that Brexit vote had narrowed down and contracted the British economy. So the consequences will be more difficult to imagine today.”

Further he stressed the importance of legal direction in policy decisions and law making, saying that he has come across some of the brightest minds in the legal space and they want to break away from traditional expertise and concentrate not only in law making but even policy formulation.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister H.N. Ananth Kumar, Law Minister T.B. Jayachandra, former chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, former deputy chief minister R Ashok and others were present during the occasion. Prabhuling Navagli, additional Solicitor General, highlighted the importance of law and contribution of KLE Law College in enhancing the quality of education.
