Telangana agrees to split 8 districts

No decision on division of Hyderabad, Rangareddy districts yet.

Hyderabad: There would be no announcement of new districts by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on June 2, Telangana state formation day, thanks to the stalemate over reorganisation of Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts.

With people vying to be part of Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy anticipating a realty boom, the process of reorganisation has got further complicated. With this, the reorganisation of Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy has been put on hold, while a clear picture over creation of other new districts emerged at the collectors’ conference here on Monday.

City puts off districts split
Clarity over creation of other new districts has emerged at the collectors conference convened by Mr Rao here on Monday. Mr Rao has decided to hold a day-long workshop in the city after June 2 to discuss, finalise the new districts, put the list on public domain and seek suggestions/objections from all stakeholders before coming up with a final list. Mr Rao is learnt to have stated that though there is scope to create 15 new districts to the existing 10 as per 2011 Census, he suggested that 14 would be better taking the total to 24. Interestingly, 24 also matches the Chief Minister’s lucky number, 6 (2+4=6).

Official sources said the Chief Minister was not convinced over the proposals submitted by officials to reorganise Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts.

Mr Rao was learnt to have approved the proposals submitted by officials for reorganisation of remaining eight districts but wanted to announce new districts only after a consensus on the reorganisation of Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts.

Mr Rao directed district collectors to come up with scientific proposals on new districts and not get influenced by the pressure exerted by various political parties and organisations, which have been agitating demanding that their constituencies be made new districts.

Consensus was reached on the creation of Mancherial district from Adilabad, Jagitial district from Karimnagar, Bhoopalapally district from Warangal, Mahbu-babad district from Warangal, Bhadradri district from Khammam, Yadadri and Suryapet districts from Nalgonda, Wanaparthy and Nagark-urnool districts from Mahbubnagar, Sangar-eddy and Siddipet distr-icts from Medak and Kamareddy from Nizam-abad district. While officials have proposed to create Vikarabad district from Rangareddy and Secunderabad district from Hyderabad, he is learnt to have opined that further work is needed before finalising them.
