Two new bus terminuses planned in Tamil Nadu: Edappadi K Palaniswami

Tamil Nadu government has fast-tracked work on setting up a bus terminus exclusively for south bound buses.

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu government has fast-tracked work on setting up a bus terminus exclusively for south bound buses at Kilambakkam near Vandalur and another terminus for north bound buses at Madhavaram, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami said here on Friday.

Addressing the Credai Fairpro 2018 after inaugurating it, Palaniswami said the state government was committed to augmenting infrastructure in tier-II and tier-III cities like Chennai and takes steps to decongest existing roads in all cities including Chennai.

Listing the initiatives taken by the government in affordable housing for the masses, Palaniswami said his administration was committed in promoting the private sector in housing and infrastructure development.

“The state government has been taking steps to decongest roads in cities by constructing outer ring roads and by-pass roads. To reduce the traffic in Chennai, the government has fast-tracked the proposal to build a modern bus terminus at Kilambakkam and another at Madhavaram,” he told the gathering.

He also said the role of private sector in “Housing for All” scheme was very crucial and noted that the state government was implementing several schemes to promote the scheme. “To increase the participation of private sector and to ensure that poor also get housing, the government has created Shelter Fund,” he said.

As far as housing in Tamil Nadu is concerned, the Tamil Nadu Housing Board and Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board have been constructing several buildings to help those belonging to weaker section get houses.

“The government has also simplified the process of granting permission to construct structures in the city. I will take steps to ensure that some of your demands are fulfilled,” he said.

In his speech, deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam said Tamil Nadu was the only state that has made construction of rain water harvesting tanks inside every building. “The government is also granting concessions to those who follow green guidelines while constructing buildings,” he said.
