Chennai: Ten days after inspector general of police S. Davidson Devasirvatham was posted as IG -intelligence by the caretaker government headed by O. Panneerselvam, Edappadi K. Palanisami led government on Thursday removed him from the post. The post of IG intelligence is kept vacant. According to a home department press release, Davidson is transferred and posted as IG (Welfare) Chennai in the existing vacancy. Before taking charge as IG-intelligence, Davidson was posted as IG (Welfare).
This is the first notable transfer in the police department after Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palanisami assumed office. Davidson, a 1995 batch IPS officer, had earlier served as an IG- Intelligence for a few months in 2015. He was posted as IG intelligence for the second time on February 13, after then intelligence IG K. N. Sathyamoorthy went on leave.
Soon after taking charge as IG (Intelligence), Davidson had pulled out all the core cell officials, the specially trained police squads that handled the security protocol of the Chief Minister stayed on in Poes Garden, Siruthavoor Estate in Kancheepuram, and Kodanad Estate in Nilgiris even after the death of former CM J Jayalalithaa and asked them to report back to the SBCID with immediate effect.
All the weapons and security gadgets were also brought back along with 200-plus security personnel worked in shifts in Poes Garden, occupied by AIADMK interim general secretary V.K. Sasikala, now jailed, and her family members.
