Steps taken for making Tamil nadu sustainable tourism destination

The aim of the programme is not only to create a lighter footprint but also to support local communities and conserve the environment.

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Tourism department in association with the Eco Tourism Society of India (ESOI), the national body on sustainable and responsible tourism has embarked on a programmable to enhance the capability of the tourism practitioners towards sustainable tourism practices. The aim of the programme is not only to create a lighter footprint but also to support local communities and conserve the environment. A workshop was recognised on Thursday and experts and sustainable tourism practitioners shared their expertise and views on the occasion. Senior state tourism officials also participated.

Chennai, second preferred destination in India:

India’s national capital, New Delhi has emerged the number one spot as the most preferred Indian destination for overseas travellers, followed by Chennai and Mumbai respectively. Other popular destinations for travellers included Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune occupying the 5th , 6th , 7th and 8th positions respectively, as per the Global hotel bookings platform Hotels.com’s latest Hotel Price Index (HPI) report.

The HPI is the report on hotel prices paid across the world. According to a recent report, Indian metros continued to dominate the top 10 favourite destinations list among international travellers in the first half of 2016.
