Supreme Court, High Courts judges to get salary hike

Arun Jaitley a draft of the legislation has been approved and is set to pass it in the forthcoming winter session of Parliament.

New Delhi: The judges of the Supreme Court and the 24 High Courts are set to get a salary hike as the Union council of ministers on Wednesday approved a proposal in this regard.

According to the proposal cleared by the Union cabinet on Wednesday the Chief Justice of India will get Rs 2.80 lakh per month and judges of the Supreme Court and Chief Justices of the High Courts will get Rs 2.50 lakh a month. Judges of the High Courts will get Rs 2.25 lakh per month, a senior government functionary added, refusing to go on record. The increased salary and pension for retired judges will be effective from January 1, 2016.
