Bengaluru: Depressed woman ends life

Not having a child after six years of marriage had caused strain in the marital life of the couple.

Bengaluru: Depressed over not having children even after six years of marriage, a 25-year-old woman committed suicide at her residence in Ravindra Gudda in Bagalagunte police station limits on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Ramadevi, wife of Maruti. She committed suicide by hanging to the ceiling.

The fact that the couple did not have a child had caused strain in their marital life. They often used to quarrel over it, police said.

According to police, Maruti worked as an office boy at a software company, while Ramadevi worked at a garment factory. The duo was living in a rented house in Ravindra Gudda for the past five years. On Friday evening when Maruti returned home from work he was shocked to see his wife hanging from the ceiling. He alerted the police about the incident.

The police rushed to Maruti’s house and shifted the body to a hospital for the post-mortem. Ramadevi’s parents alleged Maruti was responsible for their daughter’s death.

Ramadevi’s parents told police that Maruti used to harass their daughter for not being unable to bear a child. Bagalgunte police have registered a case of unnatural death.
