Karnataka: Madegowda insists on crop compensation

Madegowda visited government offices in the district and appealed to officials to boycott their work as part of the protest.

Mysuru: The authorities at KRS and Kabini reservoirs did not release water into the river leading to Tamil Nadu on Thursday as the State has decided to defer the implementatin of the Apex Court order till the Legislature Session meets.

In Mandya Cauvery Hitharakshana Vedike head Mr G Madegowda said, "The state has decided to defer the implementation of the court order but we will not stop our protest until compensation is announced for the crop loss suffered by farmers in the Cauvery catchment area."

Along with a few Cauvery agitators Mr Madegowda visited government offices in the district and appealed to officials to boycott their work as part of the protest.
Several litterateurs including Chandrashekar Patil, Marula Siddappa, B T Lalitha Nayak and others joined Mr Madegowda and protested on the Cauvery issue.

Mr Chandrashekar Patil said that the Central government seems to have lost faith in the federal system. Mr Marulasiddappa said it is time Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi broke his silence and intervened. In Mysuru, Congress leaders protested seeking the intervention of the PM to resolve the row.

Meanwhile the water level in the KRS dam in Mandya stood at 86.58 feet as compared to105 feet which was the corresponding level at this time last year. Water flows to neighbouring Tamil Nadu from this dam.
