Detention back for classes fifth, eight

If a student fails in both attempts, he/she would be detained, Mr Javadekar said, adding that 25 states had given consent to the move.

Kolkata/Hyderabad: Union HRD minister Prakash Javadekar said that the the Centre would soon introduce detention of students in Classes 5 and 8 with support from state governments.

“In the proposed Bill to be taken up Parliament soon, power has been given to the state government to have examinations for students at fifth and eighth standards in March, failing which they (students) will be given one last chance to appear in an examination in May,” the Union minister said.

If a student fails in both attempts, he/she would be detained, Mr Javadekar said, adding that 25 states had given consent to the move.
