Chennai: The IMD has predicted light to moderate rains in 16 districts in the state in the next 48 hours.
The report read that parts of Chennai, Tiruvalluvar, Kanchipuram, Cuddalore, Pudukottai, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Ramanathapuram, Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Theni, Dindugal, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram and Karaikal districts will receive light to moderate 'thermal convective' rains accompanied with thunderstorms in the next 48 hours.
Tamil Nadu has received a total of 27 mm of rainfall as opposed to the normal of 36.8 mm since June 1.
The southwest monsoon was delayed by more than over a fortnight this year.
The rain comes as a relief, especially to people of Chennai as the city has been grappling with an acute water scarcity this year.
