Nilgiri Mountain Hill train shows signs of wear and tear again

The train reached Coonoor only around 12.30 pm, nearly two hours behind schedule.

Ooty: As the steam locomotive of the The Nilgiri Mountain Railway train,
fondly known as "Ooty train" developed mechanical snag on its ascending trip on Monday morning, the train arrived two hours behind schedule, thus adding woes to the passengers on board.

The NMR train, which is hauled by the steam locomotives in the racked Coonoor-Mettuplayam sector of NMR, has been in the news for the past couple of months as the recently built four indigenous locomotives, which are service in the NMR track, has now begun to develop mechanical snags frequently. It is reminding people of one of the old such locomotives developing frequent snags during 2008-11 that often resulted in the train journey ending halfway through.

While for the past few days the steam locomotives exhibited problems in the hauling capacity in the upward journey, on Monday, the steam locomotive again created snag that led to frequent halts along the way. The train reached Coonoor only around 12.30 pm, nearly two hours behind schedule.

While the NMR aficionados wanted the railways to address this issue
immediately, now it is up to the railway administration to take stepsto give a hitch-free service in NMR, a world heritage site and a tourist attraction.
