Out of the total, the temple authority has been safeguarding 553 kg of mixed gold in its treasury at Tirupati.

Tirupatil: Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) EO Anil Kumar Singhal revealed on Monday that the TTD has 9,253 kgs of gold in its kitty in the form of deposits at various banks. Out of the total, the temple authority has been safeguarding 553 kg of mixed gold in its treasury at Tirupati.

Addressing mediapersons on Monday, the EO stressed that the 1,381 kilos of gold, including interest, which was deposited in the Punjab National Bank in 2016, had reached the TTD’s treasury safely on April 20.

The EO said that the state government had issued a GO on April 1, 2000, to deposit surplus gold, if any, in nationalised banks under the gold deposit scheme. On 2015, the RBI brought in the gold monetisation scheme in the place of the gold deposit scheme. “The total deposits of the TTD’s gold include 5,387 kg in the State Bank of India, 1,938 kg in Indian Overseas Bank (IOB), 1,381 kg in the PNB, now returned, and 553 kg of mixed gold in the TTD’s treasury,” he revealed.

He made it clear that the total responsibility of handing over the gold to the TTD treasury at the administration building, Tirupati lies purely with the PNB as per guidelines.
