PG pharma aspirants face uncertainty

The Supreme Court has directed that the admission process should be completed by June 30 for the upcoming academic year.

Bengaluru: With entrance tests and admissions to various professional courses in the state in full swing, the fate of postgraduate pharmacy aspirants hangs in balance.

The Supreme Court has directed that the admission process should be completed by June 30 for the upcoming academic year. With just a little over two more months to go to complete the process towards Master of Pharmacy (M. Pharm) seats in the state, neither Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) nor Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) have notified the aspirants of the same.

“We have been preparing for the test for months as of now and while the detailed schedule is out for entrance tests outside the state and at deemed varsities, the delay is adding to our tension,” said a domicile aspirant who prefers pursuing education within the state.

Swapna G, a student who is on an internship in the Middle East said that the delay would affect the ticket fares for her to fly back to the city to take the entrance test, if the schedule is announced in haste. “We have raised our concerns via mail and some of my counterparts in the city have contacted both the KEA and RGUHS officials demanding a swift action,” she said.

Notification soon: KEA
When contacted, KEA Administrative Officer S.N. Gangadharaiah said the government has issued the direction to conduct the exam and the notification would soon uploaded on the KEA portal.

“Our officials have been busy conducting KCET, to facilitate admission to various undergraduate professional courses. This is the first time we have been asked to conduct the test for M. Pharm as well,” he added.

Till last year, the entrance test was conducted by RGUHS itself. Reacting to the delay, a syndicate member of RGUHS said that a student-friendly decision is expected.

“With the allotment process also being handed over from this year to KEA, it is expected that they use their experience in completing the process in time similar to how they function for other admissions,” said a syndicate member.
