WARANGAL: The prestigious National Institute of Technology (NIT), Warangal, added another feather to its cap by signing an MoU with the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) nations to form the ‘BRICS Network University’ (BRICS NU). NIT director Prof. T. Srinivasa Rao signed the MoU along with other member countries at a conference held between April 7 and 9 at Ekterinburg, Russia,
BRICS NU is an educational project aimed at developing multilateral short-term joint training, masters’ and PhD programmes along with joint research projects in various knowledge fields. Providing the opportunity for high quality life-long learning, facilitating sustainable development and providing training for professionals with high qualifications, form the primary objectives of BRICS NU.
This enables exchange of students and teachers. The students can choose to complete the course in two countries and two institutions, whereupon they will receive a diploma or degree from the universities and also a certificate of participation from BRICS NU.
Initially, six thematic areas, namely, energy, computer science and information security, BRICS studies, ecology and climate change, water resources and pollution treatment and economics, were chosen.
“NIT Warangal was recognised for its strengths in computer sciences and information sciences. We also have a strong background in the study of water resources and pollution treatment. But since each institute should collaborate in only one field, we were identified to represent computer science and information technology along with IIT Kharagpur,” Mr Srinivasa Rao told DC.
