Nirav Modi contacts MEA, asks for notice on passport via email

The notice was initially sent to an address in India following which the MEA received some intimation from Nirav to send it to an email id.

New Delhi: The ministry of external affairs on Thursday confirmed that PNB bank scam accused Nirav Modi had established contact with it and had asked the MEA to send the earlier notice — on why his passport should not be revoked — through mail. This was then done by the MEA. The notice was initially sent to an address in India following which the MEA received some intimation from Nirav to send it to an email id.

The MEA had last week suspended the passports of bank scam accused Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi for four weeks and had asked them to explain within a week why their passports should not be revoked. Regarding whereabouts of Nirav, an MEA spokesperson said the matter should be addressed to the law enforcement agencies and there are certain investigations and legal procedures which need to be completed before MEA comes into picture.
