Fake travel agents dupe job aspirants

The PoE particularly mentioned a series of complaints against M/s Travel Point Overseas Man-power Consultants.

HYDERABAD: ‘The Protector of Emigrants’, as Hyderabad is often known, has asked the city police to initiate action against fake travel agents operating in the city. This action follows a series of complaints against travel operators who exploit job aspirants on the pretext of giving them jobs in foreign countries.

In a communiqué sent to the police commissioner of Hyderabad, the PoE said that only registered recruitment agencies are authorised by the ministry of external affairs to recruit workers for overseas employment. The PoE particularly mentioned a series of complaints against M/s Travel Point Overseas Manpower Consultants which is not a registered consultancy.

A youngster, Mr Aslam Khan, who was allegedly cheated by the company, had approached the PoE and lodged a complaint. The PoE asked the case to be investigated under the Emigration Act, 1983 and other relevant provisions. They have also asked the police to submit a report.

Following the letter, the commissioner of Hyderabad, Mr V. Srinivasa Rao, directed the local police to look into the issue.
