Madras HC petitioned against Jayalalithaa's pic, name

The SC in its order dated February 14, had indicted Jayalalithaa for corruption.

Chennai: An advocate has approached the Madras high court to order the removal of photographs of late chief minister Jayalalithaa from all government offices and her name from all government schemes as she has been found guilty of corruption in the disproportionate assets case.

In his petition, advocate K. Balu, president, Advocates’ Forum for Social Justice, also sought to restrain the state government from constructing a memorial for Jayalalithaa in a public place out of either the party funds or government funds. According to Balu, after Edappadi K. Palanisami became the Chief Minister, he announced “Amma Two Wheelers Scheme” which displayed the picture of Jaya. The SC in its order dated February 14, had indicted Jayalalithaa for corruption.

Therefore, the scheme in the name of convict was against the oath and affirmation taken by the chief minister and against the Constitution, he added.

He pointed out that several schemes in TN were in Jayalalithaa’s name (Amma) and her pictures were also used on items distributed to the public, the CM and his ministers were also keep her photos in the offices. Meanwhile, the state has come out with a proposal to build a grand memorial to Jayalalithaa, he added.
