19 kg gold missing from Mumbai train

Joy was among the six directors of the jewellery showroom who boarded the Kurla Express on January 17.

ANANTAPUR: Mystery shrouds the disappearance of 19 kg gold jewellery from a Mumbai train bound for Bengaluru while it was passing through AP.

Sources said one Joy, who was travelling from Mumbai with the jewellery to Bengaluru in Kurla Express, lost the consignment in the train. He came to know about this at Dharamvaram railway station but travelled up to Bengaluru, where he lodged complaint with the railway police. The complaint was transferred to the Dharmavaram railway police in Anantapur district.

Sources said Joy was among the six directors of the jewellery showroom who boarded the Kurla Express on January 17 from Mumbai. He had purchased a cool drinks bottle at Mumbai and entered into deep sleep after drinking it.

He woke up at Dharamvaram on January 18. It is being suspected that the cool drink was laced with drugs. Railway SP Subba Rao and his team rushed to Dharmavaram and called the trader for a probe into the incident. Railway police authorities from AP were firm that there is no scope for a robbery within AP jurisdiction as the Kurla Express enters the state around 1 pm and exits by 5 pm. A team has been recruited to nab the culprits, the police said.
