Bengaluru Steel Bridge: Beku Brigade walkathon on Saturday

The walkathon will be held from Mekhri Circle to Palace Grounds on December 24 and free saplings will be given to all the participants.

Bengaluru: With the National Green Tribunal (NGT) giving the go-ahead for soil testing and survey for the steel bridge flyover, members of the Steel Bridge Beku Brigade on Saturday will hold a walkathon from Mekhri Circle to Palace Grounds and submit a memorandum to Governor Vajubhai Vala seeking his intervention to get the steel flyover project going.

Mr Shivarama Setty, secretary, Karnataka Abhivruddi Mattu Anustana Samithi, an organisation demanding the steel flyover, said, “Traffic from Basaveshwara Circle to Esteem Mall has worsened and it takes nearly an hour to cross the stretch. The average speed of vehicles is not more than 10 kmph.”

The government has proposed to build the flyover to solve the traffic problem, but the project has not taken off, he lamented. “We will hand over memorandums to Mr Vala, Bengaluru Development Minister K.J. George and Agriculture Minister Krishne Byregowda, requesting their intervention to push the project. Along with the flyover, we also need a Metro along the route," he said.

The walkathon will be held from Mekhri Circle to Palace Grounds on December 24 and free saplings will be given to all the participants.
