BJP Goshamahal MLA T Raja Singh demands ban on Padmavati

He said Rajasthan, MP and UP had banned the movie.

Hyderabad: BJP Goshamahal MLA T. Raja Singh requested Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to ban the screening of the movie Padmavati till the film-maker makes the required changes. In a letter to Mr Rao, Mr Singh said the film “hurt the sentiments of Hindus by manipulating history of Rani Padmavati ji,”. He said Rajasthan, MP and UP had banned the movie.

Speaking to this newspaper, Mr Singh said that the movie hurt the sentiments of over 15 lakh Rajputs in the state besides crores of Hindus. Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali had released advertisements and promos of the movie showing Rani Padmavati dancing in public, which had never happenned. He said the song sequences with the character of Allauddin Khilji was absurd and cannot be allowed by the Rajput community. Mr Singh tried to take out a procession to the collector’s office in Abids that was prevented by the police.
