Karnataka: CM Siddaramaiah announces Police Commemoration Day venue, stadium
Bengaluru: Remembering police officials who laid down their lives in the line of duty, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday announced that a dedicated venue to organise Police Commemoration Day and a stadium on the premises KSRP Police Training Centre Battalion 3 in Koramangala will be set up.
Hailing the contribution and sacrifice of police officials, the chief minister said that his government is committed to their wellbeing and will extend all facilities for their welfare. “For any state or country to progress, a stable law and order situation is crucial. Our police officials have been protecting law, bearing all the difficulties and, at times, even at the cost of their lives. They are the real patriots,” he said at the Police Commemoration Day at KSRP Grounds in Koramangala.
He paid tributes to 370 police officials of different departments in the country, including 12 from the state, who lost their lives while on duty between September 2016 and August 2017. On bringing in wage parity among police officials of different sections, he said, “Discussions are going. Last year, the government had increased monthly allowance by Rs 2,000, as an interim measure, to police personnel up to the rank of sub-inspectors.”
On the delay in promotions, he said that the promotion of constables, head constables and assistant sub-inspectors which was once in 25 years earlier has been brought down to 10 years by his government. “Besides housing, the government has also provided canteen facility to the police and promoted a large number of lower rung staff," he said.
He inaugurated a canteen at the third battalion of the KSRP at Koramangala and also laid the foundation stone for the construction of a housing complex at Adugodi. Home Minister R. Ramalinga Reddy, DG&IGP R.K. Dutta, ADGP (KSRP) Bhaskar Rao and other senior officers were present.
‘Use advanced technology to detect crime’
Emphasising the role of technology in the detection of crimes, CM advised the police to adopt upgraded technologies to increase the detection rate. “Criminals try to be a step ahead of the police by using latest technology and maked it difficult for you to catch them. If the police use upgraded technology, it can lead to easy and early detection of crimes,” he said, stressing on the detection of murder cases which would build the confidence of the people in police
