Thirteen thousand guest teachers to be appointed by Karnataka Govt

The government is also planning a change in the policy for recruitment and transfer of school teachers.

Bengaluru: The state government has decided to recruit over 13,000 guest teachers for primary and secondary schools, to solve the shortage of teaching staff with vacancies now over 22,000.

Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Mr Tanvir Sait said that the government had sought permission to recruit over 3,306 teachers, to fill up the vacancies which would arise after teachers retire in the next two years.

The government is also planning a change in the policy for recruitment and transfer of school teachers. The teachers would be recruited at the district level and their transfers would be done within the same district. They would work and retire in the same district, where they are recruited. This would help the government to handle transfer pressures, he said.

Meanwhile, the government had decided to permit students, who fail in the SSLC and PUC exams to go back to school for one more academic year. A major complaint was that the students, who come out of school after failing in one or two subjects, were becoming a burden on society.

Similarly, the students who score less marks and want to withdraw their results, would be allowed to attend school again. The attendance for these students would be made mandatory, he added.

Mr Sait said that the government had decided not to close any government schools. There were over 4164 schools, which have less than 10 students, but they would not be closed.
